The Forgotten Addition - Frozen Toes Brewing

When I updated the lists last week, I forgot to add Frozen Toes Brewing located within Pizza By Elizabeths to the list. I STILL haven't been but they have a couple of their own brews on tap usually along with other local favorites, but you can only fill Growlers with their beer.

First blog in a year with LOTS of new updates in the Delaware Growler scene!

Time sure does fly by, and I can't believe its been a full year since the last blog I wrote on here.  So much has happened in the past year in Delaware when it comes to Growlers and Craft Beer in general.  I've been keeping up on Facebook, but haven't given the blog much maintenance . . . . . . until today!! Bear with me because I have lots of updates!

Lets start with  NEW places to fill a Growler:

Newark Bottle Shop - Pencader Plaza - 12 Taps - Fills 32oz and 64oz Growlers
Midway Discount Liquor Warehouse - Harrington - 3 Taps - No other info available

Breweries (another year without a new brewery in New Castle County)

Big Oyster Brewery - Rehoboth Beach (Inside Fins Ale House & Raw Bar)
Dewey Beer Company - Dewey Beach

Kelly's Logan House - Trolley Square, Wilmington

Moving on to a couple spots that NO LONGER fills Growlers:

Premier Wine & Spirits Limestone - They have dramatically downsized their store, and with that went the Growler bar.
16 Mile Taphouse Newark - Once 16 Mile took its name off the business and changed it to Stone Balloon Ale house, the ability for Growler fill went away with it.
Twin Lakes Brewery - If you haven't heard the story behind this, read this, and then this. They will return, but for now instead of being able to fill a Growler just two days a week, it's now zero days a week,

Lastly, I changed the background to reflect my Facebook cover page, and changed slightly changed some font color and sizes.  I removed graphics from the listing pages to give it a cleaner look and separated where you can fill Growlers by County and cleaned up some of the link.

Cheers!

With 50 taps, The Delaware Growler opens on Main Street!

48 East Main Street
Newark, Delaware 19711
(302) 454 7695

The opening of The Delaware Growler has been the most anticipated opening of a liquor store that I can remember.  With 50 taps available for Growler fills, they are officially Delaware's largest Growler filling station, taking over the top spot from Total Wine in Claymont.  The Delaware Growler will fill 32oz and 64oz Growlers, and you can bring your own.

You can find out what's currently on tap before you go by checking out their taplist via Tap Hunter on their Facebook and Web page.  Links Below!

Outlet Liquors! Now filling Growlers in Rehoboth Beach!

Outlet Liquors
19724 Coastal Highway Unit 1
Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
(302) 227-7700
Outlet Liquors in Rehoboth Beach is now filling Growlers, and is the first Liquor Store in Rehoboth to have a Growler Filling Station! Matt from Outlet Liquors contacted me yesterday to let me know of this great news.  Outlet Liquors will have a 8 Tap Station that will fill 32oz and 64oz Growlers.
Currently there is not an online taplist, however Matt said they are working on a new Facebook page that will list the updates in the future so keep an eye out for that.  In the meantime, the following link is their present Facebook page.
Also, the picture below is what was on draft as of 8/7/2014, and it looks like a lot of local local breweries are featured! Cheers!

Updated info on the Breweries Page

  •  The newest update is from Mispillion River Brewing as they now fill and have their own 32oz Growlers.  This is great for me because I can now get Growlers of Holy Crap! and Double Chin or ZJ at the same time!
  •

  • A few weeks ago, I contacted Fordham/Old Dominion in regards to filling Growlers, which they current DO NOT DO! Its true, you can get their beer filled in Growlers at the liquor stores, but not fresh from the Brewery, and I was wondering if that would change.  Here is their reply.  Hopefully one day that will change, especially since they are so close to Route 1.
"We do not have the proper licensing to fill growlers at this point it time. We have not pursued the licensing because our tap room is not currently equipped to fill growlers and we want to make sure that our beer is at its best."

  • Lastly, when I contacted Argilla Brewing Company several months ago, they had a couple particulars regarding filling Growlers, and I added them to the page.  First, they do not prefer to fill 64oz Growlers due to the fact that they are a nano-brewery and the quantity is small.  They will fill 32oz Growlers, however they prefer that it be once of their bottles, again for the sake of quantity.  With that being said, I'm sure you can ask them if they could fill your Growler, and they may say yes depending on the quantity.

As of early April, Banks Wine & Spirits in Millville has started filling Growlers! According to their website, they currently have an 8 tap rotation, and also sell stainless steel Growlers in addition to the classic amber glass.  They are located off Route 26, not too far from Bethany Beach.  Links are listed below, as well as the Liquor Store list.
